NSFAS bursaries are a great option for students who want to study at a university or a TVET college. But some students struggle with the documents they need to apply for NSFAS. Don’t let this stop you from applying, because the closing date is near. This guide will help you understand what documents you need to give to NSFAS when you apply.
What is an Unemployment Affidavit?
An Unemployment Affidavit is a legal document that declares the unemployment status of an individual. In the context of NSFAS, it’s used to confirm that the parents or guardians of the student applying for financial aid are not employed.
What Affidavit is Required for NSFAS?
NSFAS asks you to give affidavits when you don’t have other documents to back up your claims. The affidavit is a way of showing that your claims are true because it is a sworn statement in front of the Commission of Oaths, which makes it legally valid.
The documents you can give to NSFAS as an affidavit are:
- A statement that shows your parent is not living with you,
- A reason why your parent is not supporting you, or A declaration that says your parent is working informally.
How to Write an Unemployment Affidavit for NSFAS
To apply for NSFAS, you may need to give an affidavit to NSFAS. You can get the affidavit form from your nearest police station.
On the form, you must write the full name, address, and ID number of the person who is making the affidavit.
The form has a space for a declaration. In this space, your parent, guardian, spouse, or the person who is making the declaration must write in capital letters. They must also write your full name and ID number when they mention you in the affidavit.
If the affidavit is to show informal work, your parent, spouse, or guardian must write these details:
- What kind of work they do Where they work (the suburb and city) And (if they have one) who they work for the affidavit must be signed and dated.
If you write something wrong on the form, cross it out and write your initials next to it or get a new form.
The affidavit is only valid if it is stamped and signed by the right officer at the police station.
